Emotion – A Surprise Proposal in La Jolla

Today, I’m blogging with a purpose: to showcase some emotion. :)

I recently joined a group of photographer bloggers who pick a theme for their posts, and this week’s theme is emotion! Photography is so powerful because we are able to use it to capture fleeting moments and emotions to last longer than a lifetime. Almost a year ago, I was contacted by a handsome guy looking for a photographer to film his surprise proposal to his girlfriend (now wife)! Of course I jumped at the opportunity. Texas! I’m coming to you!

I am REALLY excited to be heading to Texas later this month for a wedding at the beginning of May! I’ll be in town for about a week and have some time for some portrait sessions while I’m there! I’ll be starting in San Antonio and then heading up to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Please see below for my availability and contact me at [email protected] to secure your spot ASAP! Welcome Home, Chris! – USMC Homecoming

Stephanie and I had been chatting about her husband’s homecoming for a while before it (finally!) happened. She and I met because she is a Naval Officer and we worked together at the ROICC (construction office) at Camp Pendleton, and I’m so glad our friendship stretched beyond the office! While Chris was gone, Stephanie held down the home front while continuing to work at the ROICC and taking care of their sweet girl, E. E is such a cutie and was so excited to be able to give her daddy a hug again, after not seeing him for 6 months!

I was afraid I’d get stuck in traffic on the way down to Miramar, so I left terribly early. We met up at Stephanie’s house, even after I accidentally took the scenic route around San Diego, and finished up a few last-minute things before heading to Miramar. We got there just a few minutes before the airplane landed, but still had enough time to finish up the sign Stephanie put together for Miss E!

Paige & Chris – San Diego County Fair

Paige and Chris met up for a fun and colorful engagement-style session at the San Diego County Fair last year! I love everything about this session–the style, the color, the love between them.. it is just perfect. :) This session was one of the portrait swaps I participated in with a handful of other military wife photographers in San Diego, featuring the beautiful Paige of Paige Prior Photography, and her stud muffin of a husband, Chris.

Paige is a genuine sweetheart and it was SO fun to get her and her husband dressed up in vintage attire for this photo session inspired by The Notebook. I (still!) haven’t seen the movie, though I did read the book a few years back, so Angie and Paige took the reins on the styling! They did a swell job!

Thanks again, Paige and Chris, for allowing me to photograph your awesome session at the San Diego County Fair!

Welcome Home, Eric! – USMC Homecoming

Photographing this specific homecoming was such an honor. You may perhaps recognize Betty and Eric from this post from 2011, when we first met. Or this one or this one from last fall. Perhaps you saw Betty in one of the many sessions we did last summer! No? Ok, nevermind. :)

These two are some of the sweetest Nebraskans I’ve ever met, and though I’m so excited that Eric returned from his final deployment last week, I’m saddened that they’ll soon be making their way back to the land of corn fields and goldenrod flowers. Eric has been deployed multiple times–several as a Sailor and twice as a Marine–and I know he’s happy to be back in Betty’s arms for good!

Here are some of my favorites from their St. Patrick’s Day reunion!
