Welcome Home, Travis!

Capturing this homecoming was an absolute dream! Alicia contacted me last September regarding capturing this homecoming, and I knew it was going to be special when I found out that Alicia was pregnant and would be delivering the baby before Travis’ return! Plus, Alicia is from Texas and was staying with her family in Ft Worth while Travis was deployed, only a short distance from my grandmother’s house!

Little Finn was born about 2 months ago, and was so excited to meet his daddy last week! He is a total sweetheart and has the best smile!

Though the morning seemed like it would never end, soon enough, we were able to spot the LAVs coming over the hills to Camp Las Flores, and the Marines were home! Here are some favorites from the day.

Congratulations to Alicia and Finn on making it through this 8-month deployment! Welcome home, Travis, 1st LAR, and all of the Marines and Sailors aboard the USS New Orleans and all ships with the 13th MEU! Thank you for allowing me to capture these moments for you!

Welcome Home, Mason!

Jessica waited patiently for months for Mason to come back from his first deployment, and I was so excited to be there to capture this reunion for them! Several former Marines from Mason’s unit were present and kept Jessica occupied while waiting on the buses to arrive. Originally from New Orleans, Jessica said she felt like she was back at Mardi Gras while standing on an ice chest so Mason could see her from afar. ;) Here are some favorites from the evening.

Welcome Home, Chris! – USMC Homecoming

Stephanie and I had been chatting about her husband’s homecoming for a while before it (finally!) happened. She and I met because she is a Naval Officer and we worked together at the ROICC (construction office) at Camp Pendleton, and I’m so glad our friendship stretched beyond the office! While Chris was gone, Stephanie held down the home front while continuing to work at the ROICC and taking care of their sweet girl, E. E is such a cutie and was so excited to be able to give her daddy a hug again, after not seeing him for 6 months!

I was afraid I’d get stuck in traffic on the way down to Miramar, so I left terribly early. We met up at Stephanie’s house, even after I accidentally took the scenic route around San Diego, and finished up a few last-minute things before heading to Miramar. We got there just a few minutes before the airplane landed, but still had enough time to finish up the sign Stephanie put together for Miss E!

Welcome Home, Eric! – USMC Homecoming

Photographing this specific homecoming was such an honor. You may perhaps recognize Betty and Eric from this post from 2011, when we first met. Or this one or this one from last fall. Perhaps you saw Betty in one of the many sessions we did last summer! No? Ok, nevermind. :)

These two are some of the sweetest Nebraskans I’ve ever met, and though I’m so excited that Eric returned from his final deployment last week, I’m saddened that they’ll soon be making their way back to the land of corn fields and goldenrod flowers. Eric has been deployed multiple times–several as a Sailor and twice as a Marine–and I know he’s happy to be back in Betty’s arms for good!

Here are some of my favorites from their St. Patrick’s Day reunion!

Welcome Home, Tommy!

Homecomings rarely happen as planned, and this one was no different. The estimated time of arrival shifted too many times to keep count, was originally scheduled for one day and ended up happening the next, at one point was going to happen at 0500 (that’s 5:00 am!) and even was delayed after the men had landed in Ontario due to their bus breaking down on the way back to Camp Pendleton. Still, the families were overjoyed to see their loved ones return safely–and the Marines and Sailors of 1st ANGLICO’s SALT C couldn’t hide their excitement to be back!

I was incredibly excited when Sarah asked me to photograph Tommy’s homecoming since my husband is also with 1st ANGLICO, and Tommy was being reunited with their 9-month-old son, who was only 12 weeks old when he left for Afghanistan! I know little E kept Sarah busy while Tommy was gone, and I’m sure they were both thankful to have him back. The smiles on their faces say it all!
