The Riemann Family

I was tremendously honored when my neighbor and fellow photographer, Ashley, contacted me to photograph her family this fall. We set a date what seemed like years ago and I anxiously awaited their amazing family session on Oceanside Pier and the surrounding beach. Her family’s sweetness made the unusually icy morning seem not so frigid. ;) Here are a few favorites from our session.

Betty & Eric – San Diego Underwater Session

I finally was able a few of the images created when these images were! Read the whole story behind this amazing underwater photography session over on that post. As I mentioned there, I have a different editing style than Robby, and I played around with a few techniques for these images since this was my first underwater shoot! What do you think??

Interested in seeing an un-edited photo? Here’s the SOOC (straight out of camera) version of the above image. :) The crazy vignette is because the lens was too wide for the housing we were using, so it had to be removed from all of the images we took!

And here’s this tango one again. :)

San Diego Shooting Group – Dia de los Muertos

Last month, the San Diego Shooting Group got together for something a little out of the ordinary. :) A few months ago, one of the members mentioned to me that he was interested in doing a Dia de los Muertos shoot, so I decided to make it happen for our September gathering.

My fab friend, Yvonne Williams, helped out a TON for this shoot–she shopped with me for the wardrobe and props, found an awesome family to model for us (and volunteered her own daughter to take part as well!), and secured the amazing Cierra Nielsen to be our make-up artist. Thank you SO much, Yvonne! I owe you!!!

Here are some of my favorites, including a couple of the photographers who came out to Old Town for the afternoon, and our group shot! (Thanks to Katie for reminding me to take it!!)

Huge thanks to our wonderful models, Yvonne and Cierra for their help, and all the photographers who joined us for this fun session! :)

What is the San Diego Shooting Group? We’re a casual group with photographers of all sorts of levels of experience, who get together every other month to practice our craft. If you’re a San Diego-based photographer looking for a fun group to get out and shoot with, feel free to email me, facebook me, or tweet me so I can let you know about everything we have planned! We get together every other month, so I’ll be scheduling the next event for sometime in November.

A session with HeartsApart.org

It has been a while since I’ve posted a session done as a photographer with HeartsApart.org. Giving back to fellow military families is so awesome, and I absolutely love HeartsApart.org’s mission: “to keep families connected while our military men and women are serving abroad.” Photographs are such a powerful way to be comforted when we’re apart from our loved ones. Each image seems to trigger a different emotional reaction and I have definitely cherished the images I took with my husband before he deployed. :)

Here are some favorite images from a recent session photographed for HeartsApart.org.

The Dangel Family

This family of six was such a treat to photograph on the beach here in Oceanside! I grew up with three siblings and I don’t think we were ever as sweet to each other as these four kiddos were. ;) Mom and Dad are awesome neighbors and I was so excited to create a collection of portraits for them. Here are some of my favorites!
