Last fall, Katie and I were at lunch one day when we both started talking about wanting to create a wedding blog for the San Diego area. Geographically-based wedding blogs have really taken off on the East Coast, and we felt that the West Coast should have a few of their own as well! We planned to get started with San Diego, where we are both currently living.

Through multiple discussions about our life as military spouses, our (potential for me and definite for Katie) upcoming moves, and our love of our husbands in uniform, we decided to change directions all together and move forward with a wedding blog dedicated to the modern military couple. Thus, Vows & Valor was born! Launched last week, Vows & Valor is the premier blog for those who are involved with military weddings. Vows & Valor features inspiration from real weddings and engagement sessions as well as themed styled shoots, in addition to being a great resource for those currently in the midst of wedding planning! We’ve already featured one delicious signature cocktail recipe and we plan to highlight many more DIY projects in the future!

To kick off the launch, Katie and I set up a styled shoot, featuring a real military couple, at the Ranch House at Camp Pendleton. Here are some of the images I captured that afternoon, including the first handful on film!

This session was beautiful, thanks to furniture and styling by Lauren Sharon Vintage Rentals, gorgeous florals by Michelle of the Sweet Pea Flower Company, makeup and hair by HueLaLa Aesthetics, a delicious cake by Amanda Elms, and the fun custom cake toppers that we used for my wedding that were purchased (in 2008!) from Goose Grease! I also owe a huge thank you to my fabulous friends, Amber and Bobby, for participating in this awesome session, and to the amazing Natalie Franke, who generously spent her afternoon to assist us while she was vacationing here in California! Thank you all!!
