Film Friday – Joshua Tree Double Exposures

Last month, I spent a few days out at Joshua Tree National Park to learn how to make tintypes, which was awesome! While we weren’t spending time in the portable darkroom, we were off on our own to spend our time as we wished, so I naturally photographed the desert a little more. Here are a couple double-exposures from the trip, photographed on my Holga!

Shannon & Neil – Wedding at 828 Events

This week marks one year of the start of the military wedding inspiration blog, Vows & Valor! I partnered with fellow military spouse, Katie, to create V&V after we noticed a need for a blog dedicated specifically to military weddings and marriages, and all the twists and turns that the military brings to it’s member’s families’ lives. We are so happy with the blog’s growth over the past year, and celebrated with a Navy wedding styled shoot several weeks ago! Take a look at our favorite images from the afternoon on Vows & Valor! Here is just a small sample of the images I captured on film that day!

Kristin by Candlelight

I jumped at the chance to photograph beautiful Kristin with fellow photographers Dawn Nash and Cindy Palmer last month! Dawn had some amazing candelabras that she wanted to use for a session, so we got together for some photo fun! Here are some of the images I captured on film. We started before the sun sank into the horizon, then moved onto the candle-lit portion once the sunlight was gone. The candle images here were rated at 1600 and I pushed the roll two stops while developing. :)

Film Friday – Wedding Day Portraits at Balboa Park

Andy and Mallory wed at the San Diego Courthouse and headed to Balboa Park for portraits together after the ceremony. I love photographing couples on black and white film, and these two were no exception! Their smiles were contagious all afternoon, even though the ceremony started super late and we were all afraid that we’d loose the light before we wrapped up! Here are some favorites from their wedding day portraits, which I captured as an associate photographer for The Hearts Haven.

Double Exposures in the Darkroom

Most people are aware that creating double-exposures in your camera can be fun and exciting! Creating double-exposures in the darkroom can be even more satisfying, since the creator has more control over what image is being created, even if you can’t see it until it’s developed! Here, I created a double exposure first by stacking my negatives in the carrier (top image). Then, for the middle image, since I wanted the tree texture to be less noticeable, I decided to expose the paper once for the desert image (with beautiful Jenny in it) then again with the tree texture, dodging the area where Jenny is located. I noticed that I didn’t have the enlarger set up properly for this print, so I adjusted it, and repeated the process for the final (bottom) image.

This post is part of a blog circle for the love of film! See what Bobbi-Jo of Love, Bee photography has in store for you this month by clicking here! :)
